School for Friends families

Families are an essential and involved part of our community. We foster a strong, intentional family-school connection. Family pictures are visible in all of our classrooms, and family members are invited to visit and participate in a variety of ways.

We have an open-door policy and allow families to spend time in the classroom in ways that work for them and the children. All classrooms offer a family of the week, when families can visit the classroom and share about themselves. This may be about their identity, their religion, a special holiday they celebrate, or a favorite family recipe. It creates opportunities for all our students to feel valued and for all of us to learn from each other in authentic, meaningful ways.

We also have a monthly family event. Some examples are an all-school dance party, “A Simple Meal” potluck lunch at the Meeting House, a spring Children's Fair, and more. The connections made among our families are meaningful and often last long beyond your time at School for Friends.

We also invite family members to be leaders within the community and to contribute in a variety of ways. We have class parents who help coordinate communication among their classes, family members who help organize some of our larger annual events, and family members who serve on our Board of Trustees. As a small school, we rely on the partnership and support of our families to sustain such an excellent and inclusive program.
