Co-Teacher

(Toddler)

School for Friends is a small community-based school that has been serving DC-area families since 1981. We provide a high-quality, caring, and supportive educational environment for children ages 12 months through six years and their families. We are committed to creating a diverse school community focusing on the Quaker values of cooperation, equality, and nonviolence. We encourage all aspects of a child's development – social, emotional, physical, and cognitive – in a safe, welcoming, and engaging setting. We help the children develop positive concepts and understand others from different cultural and economic backgrounds. We are committed to the inclusion of children with various learning abilities.

We are open year-round from 8:15 AM to 5:45 PM, Monday through Friday.

School for Friends is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), a Friends Council on Education member, and licensed by OSSE.

Job Description

The Co-Teacher works in partnership with their lead teacher to support the following:

  • Ensuring the care and safety of children in a nurturing learning environment
  • Planning and implementing a play-based curriculum, including creating daily lesson plans, that is consistent with the goals and philosophy of the school and that meets the holistic needs and interests of the children
  • Observing and tracking children's developmental progress, including children with different needs, using ASQ-3 and Teaching Strategies GOLD
  • Communicate in a clear, positive, and consistent manner with families and colleagues, including contributing to classroom blogs and newsletters
  • Engaging in ongoing professional development and staff meetings

Associate preferred

Experience

Working with young children in a group setting — 2 years preferred
